Semester 2, 2018 was a particularly busy time for a number of students studying the Master of Project Management (MPM). With the idea for a student society seeded and supported by the Project Management Discipline leadership team, an initial five of the MPM students set themselves the goal of bringing this idea to life. The aims were clear – build a community for PM students past and present at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and provide useful networking opportunities for professional and personal development. Within scant days, the RMIT Project Management Chapter was born, and the representatives found themselves right away with an opportunity to plan and deliver a showcase of the RMIT Canvas implementation project to their fellow students and staff. Having little more than a week to plan for the event, it ended up a resounding success:
This event was followed swiftly by another successful funded event that included speakers from the Australian Institute of Project Management. PMC’s inaugural general meeting was held shortly after, where a dedicated team were elected with their minds set clearly on an even bigger and better 2019. A social atmosphere would be vital to ensure PMC would continue on, so PMC closed the semester with a farewell to all departing students, with the hope that as they entered the industry, they would return back to share their journey and experiences with the next generations of RMIT PM students.
