National Construction Code 2019 – what do the proposed changes mean for residential buildings?
On the 8th of March 2018 the SBiLab hosted a discussion on what the proposed changes to the National Construction Code 2019 mean for residential buildings. More than 90 people from across RMIT, state government and the building industry attended to hear the thoughts of Alan Pears (RMIT), Tony Isaacs (Tony Isaacs Consulting) and Eli Court (Climate Works, Monash University). After their presentations they were joined by Michael Ambrose (CSIRO) and Trivess Moore (RMIT) for a question and answer session.
The presenters highlighted that while there were some clear improvements in the proposed changes, including the closing of previous performance loop holes that more needs to be done if we are to deliver more sustainable and liveable housing. In particular the cost for delay was significant in terms of financial and environmental outcomes.
