Women Building Futures: Alumni Profile: Nadd Sofian

 

An interview with Nadd Sofian – Alumni of the Construction Management Undergraduate degree.

Where are you working now?

“IJM Construction Sdn Bhd”

What is your role and what activities does your role entail on a daily basis?

“Quantity Surveyor. I’m basically dealing most with sub-contractors, monitoring their work done, preparing any variations and progressively prepare interim payment for them.”

What was your favourite part of your degree?

“The environment that encourage critical thinking and team works.”

What do you like best about your role?

“Gaining experience that I couldn’t get somewhere else”

What attracted you to your role?

“I’m attracted by the opportunity of learning technical stuff on site”

What is most important to you when looking for a job?

“Good environment, career development & ultimately NICE BOSS! :)”

Tell us about your career journey so far.

“I’m in the state of eagerness to explore & learning more!”

Tell us about the challenges and triumphs you have faced as a female in a male-dominated industry

“The challenge in my country is mainly on safety matters. You will be treated the same as your male colleagues. You have to go for site inspection alone and most of the time you have to catch & absorb things quickly while inspecting the subcontractor’s works. But this kind of challenge has prepared me to be a critical thinker and force me to always eager in exploring more things.”

If you could say one thing to young females looking to enter the industry – what would it be?

“Passion & Patient”

Anything else you would like to share?

“Always know your strengths and know how to fully optimised it at the right time and at the right place.”
