Hyemi Hwang is a lecturer within the School of Property Construction and Project Management (PCPM) at RMIT University. She joined PCPM after completing her PhD at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2012. She received CIOB Australasia Excellent Building Postgraduate Award 2012 for her PhD thesis on the investigation into property decision making behaviour and rationality assumption in neoclassical economics.

Before joining PCPM, she had begun her academic career at the University of Newcastle and the University of Western Sydney teaching various property related courses such as property development, finance and investment and economics. Now she concentrates her teaching area in property and urban development. She has professional experience in market analysis and feasibility study specialised in shopping centre developments. She compares her former life as a feasibility specialist with being a psychic. Only difference would be she did not read a crystal ball instead she read Excel spread sheets to her clients.

She has a strong commitment to the innovation in teaching and learning. Particularly she is currently conducting a couple of teaching and learning projects that involve integrating social media as a part of a course structure to enhance teaching and learning experience. She is also interested in improving students’ understanding of international practices and also engaging students with their professional communities in global context. She is working on a project to assist Australian and Korean students to engage in an opportunity to learn about the higher education sector, student global mobility and student accommodation.
