IS THERE VALUE IN WAITING? AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF REAL OPTIONS APPLICATION TO PROPERTY DEVELOPMENTS

Dr Mintah recently completed his PhD where he explored real options valuation (ROV) application to Australian residential property developments and examined requirements for the practical adoption of real options theory for decision making.

Quantitative evaluations using selected ROV models and face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted as part of the thesis. The findings from the quantitative modelling provided evidence to support the argument that ROV models deliver superior results and enhance decision making in residential property developments. The semi-structured interviews unravelled some of the reasons behind the lack of practical adoption and the requirements necessary for industry acceptance and practical adoption of real options theory.
