In the recent mid-year break, the School of PCPM collaborated with RMIT’s S chool of V ocational Engineering in the delivery of a new , innovative intensive elective that offered PCPM students the opportunity to get ‘hands-on’ experience in the residential building and construction sector.
The course was designed and developed by Anna Galluzzo (SoVE) in consultation with PCPM Course Coordinator, Dr. Amrit Sagoo and the Program Manager of Project Managemen t, Dr . Christina Scott-Young .
The intensive week included:

  • Construction Induction Card (white card) training
  • An interactive visit to a Burbank home site under construction in outer Western Melbourne
  • Detailed discussions of residential construction techniques
  • Hands on experience in carpentry, plumbing, surveying and electrical

Participating students reported that it was one of the best courses they have taken and found the experience invaluable in their understanding of other topics taught in their undergraduate degree. They have recommended that students should take this elective early on in their degree. The news of the course’s value has spread quickly and other students are already making inquiries about the timetabling of the next intensive.
