UN SBC Multi Stakeholder Advisory Committee Meeting 2019

The UN One Planet Network’s SBC programme held its yearly Multistakeholder Advisory Committee (MAC) meeting in Amsterdam, Netherlands from 6-8 June 2019. The meeting took place at three locations including Hotel QO, C-beta Hoofddorp and a tour of Amsterdam Noord: City District in Transition.

The SBC programme works toward circular built environments, with an aspirational target of reducing construction and demolition waste leading to a global 30% recovery rate of such waste. Rijkswaterstaat hosted a SBC Sustainable Built Environment Knowledge Sharing Workshop for the SBC team and Dutch experts on Circular Built Environment on 6 June. The SBC MACs approved the Work plan 2019-20 approach focusing on two themes: resilience and circularity in the built environment. The SBC team visited De Ceuvel that transformed a polluted shipyard into a sustainable residential area built largely out of recycled materials such as old houseboats. Next to De Ceuvel, a circular floating neighbourhood Buiksloterham was also a highly of the site visit. This site produces its own energy using a smart grid and recycles its wastewater.
